Cycle Killers

Proving that we're not one-trick ponies who can just run road races, the E Streeters took to the streets of Bedford, Billerica, Concord and Carlisle on Sunday on wheels, as part of Middlesex Community College's first-ever bike challenge! Sue, Scott, Andrew, Tommy, and I took on the challenge - Scott logging the 40 miles, the rest of us doing 10 miles that at times FELT like 40!

Photos via my BikeCam, through MCC photo Alyce O'Connell, and from Barry, who went out on a limb to take the shots for us, branching off into photography for the day.At the start of the 40-mile leg, here's Marc Burke, he of Pan Mass lore who's capable of doing the 40 with his eyes closed!Scott, looking bored as the safety rules of the road are announcedE Streeter Jonathan Crockett checks in out on the course, looking happier at the start than he would at the finish of the 40All smiles at the start of the 10Tommy, trying desperately to catch up the lad beating him out of the collegeAndrew, in racing form, even though it wasn't a raceMe, cursing Tommy for lending me a mountain bike for a road rideStill, holding my own out on the courseThere goes TommyAnd here he comes into the home stretchAndrew, wondering how it's possible Tommy beat him inScott, on his victory lapAs you can see, it was a close finishMary-Jo Griffin and Cathy Scott, both cycling psychos, tore up the 40-mile course like it was all downhillFinally, the end is in sightI'm not sure, but I think Sue tried to cut me off at the finishSome of the many in attedance to cheer us inA couple of rays of sunshineBeaming from every angleOur support staff grew as the morning went onA support group in action: E Streeter wivesAll tuckered out, post-raceThe MCC team that put the whole shebang togetherAnd lastly, the best looking bullhorn girl I've ever seen
Thanks to all who participated, it was a great day, with monies raised going to support the MCC Foundation, which helps supply scholarships to our students! Who knows, this cycling thing may just catch on. Maybe you'll be seeing more blog posts of us idiots on bikes, not just running road races!
