Done gawking at historic architecture, we finally got our butts into the arena in Albany, ready for the first of a cadre of Bruce shows, and surprise, surprise - we landed second row seats directly behind the stage! We were close enough to read the titles of the next song on deck as they showed up on the horns' teleprompter, and we were able to know when the Boss called one of his nine audibles, deciding to change his setlist with a surprise song that he was just in the Albany type of mood to play.
Barry really gets into his Bruce shows. He's actually singing, not howling a BackStreets primal scream
The newest member of the Miami Air Horns section
Rapid fire, some shots from backstage at Mary's Place
Speaking of which, us E Streeters made our YouTube debut during the song, seen here around the 3:30 mark, dancing in the not-so-dark like the idiots we are
You'd think John was actually on stage with the band. He would've if he could've.
Later on, it was time to wait on the Ghost of Tom Joad, and a chance to spotlight the guitar work of the inimitable Tom Morello!
Morello, the newest addition to the E Street Band, was mesmerizing on guitar, and added a newness and fresh sound to the band that was much appreciated.
Yeah, the house was packed, alright
It wouldn't be a stop on the Father/Son Springsteen Break Tour of '14 without an obligatory pic of the pair during the anthemic Born to Run encore
Well they made that change uptown, the Big Man's nephew joined the band
A tremendous trio
You can never accuse the boss of not connecting with his crowd. That's him standing out in the middle of it. Crowd surfing to get back to the stage isn't out of the question, either.
Take a bow, E Street Band, you have more than earned it, hundreds of times over
Backstage, we got a chance to shout our personal thank yous out to all the band members, including Gary W. Tallent. They definitely heard us, as close as we were. Whether or not it changed their lives, only time will tell.
Tom Morello
And this guy, the ringmaster of the greatest Rock and Roll Show on Earth himself
My people!
Peace out, everyone!
Between the four of us - Barry, John, Andrew, and myself - we've notched nearly 200 Springsteen shows, going back to my first in the fall of 1980. The Albany setlist provided an eclectic mix of old, new and, sign-requests, including a pair of Andrew's personal faves, the Seaside Bar Song, and Ramrod.
Woven in with the Bee Gee's Stayin' Alive, a show-opener Don't Change cover of the INXS song, Roy Head's Treat Her Right (which stumped Andrew and I as we listened to it during the sound check) and a special highlight for moi, the Drifters' Save the Last Dance for Me.
On to Hershey!
