With Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band winding down their world tour with a series of shows that unfortunately fell nowhere near the environs of Lowell, it was clear that in order to see the Greatest Rock and Roll Show on Earth, there was going to have be some hefty miles logged in the process. So you all know what that means, right?
Road Trip.
Road Trip.
Without Otis Day and the Knights, though
Indeed, it was time to add a road trip that would go down in the annals of history, right up there with some of the other famous pairings on the open road.
Like On the Road. Without, you know, the alcohol and drugs.
Maybe something a bit more G-rated.
This father-son excursion is probably closer to the truth
So first up on our triptik was the capital of New York, Albany, a place neither Andrew nor I had ever seen before.
So naturally, we had to take pictures in the scenic downtown, alongside the Hudson River
Stan Lee's presence was everywhere: Excelsior!
The architecture, especially along the Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza, is really a fascinating mix of old and new, with art sculptures dotting the landscape in among the federal buildings.
The New York State Capital, built in 1867, provided a pretty impressive centerpiece
Andrew was disappointed there was no Shield helicarrier parked beneath the reflection pond of the Empire State Plaza
Andrew had quite an egg on his head. That is, the Egg, a performing arts theater
Andrew, still searching for the helicarrier
Concealed within his fortress, the lord of Mordor sees all. His gaze pieces cloud, shadow, earth, and flesh. You know of what I speak, Gandalf: a great Eye. Lidless, wreather in flame
Traveling with Andrew has its pluses and minuses
And finally, after a spell, we were joined by fellow E Streeters Barry Scanlon and John Piekos, for an historic concert to follow, one that will get its own historic blog entry in the days to come.
