The Good Times racing series may have passed out its last smiley face for the season last week, but there were plenty of smiles to go around for the new Middlesex Community College running club that's claiming Tuesday nights as its own.
First up - a 3.2 mile jaunt around Belvidere, starting at the college's historic John Nesmith House. People were all smiles before the run started. They didn't allow me to take pics at the end. I wonder why?
We started out with a pack mentality, at least until we could break a sweat
Pretty soon, we were making our way past Shedd Park, and as usual, Joe Patuto found himself in a familiar situation.
Captain America and her partner
The bikers that run together - Mary-Jo and Donna!
Rebecca and Cherie are cleverly hanging back - and why?
Because they know that spinach pie is back! Woohoo!
Suddenly, in the middle of the hours-long run, there appeared an oasis, in the form of my beautiful wife, waiting along the course with Gatorade for all!
Judging from this pic, apparently Paula has never seen Gatorade before. Either that or she was severely dehydrated and seeing things. Regardless, it got the thumbs up from Mary-Jo who was busy running circles around the water stop
Finally, coming into the home stretch, we were lapped by Richard Frank and Lisa Doucett, who ran at a gazelle's pace, coming back out to meet us all for the finish. Props also to Elise Martin who created her own course, joining us at the mid-point and pacing her friends back to the Nesmith House.
Then to really show us all what great shape they were in, some of the runners faced off in a front lawn plank-off! It'd still be going if we didn't blow the whistle and call it a day.
Great job by everyone involved! See you downtown next Tuesday night!
