Dublin Over!

Some of the E Streeters headed south for a bit, to run in the Disney Marathon (blog posts to follow) so fellow E Streeter John Piekos ably stepped in to provide a guest blog to run in our stead.

So without any further ado, here's the greatest thing to hit Dublin since Bono, the Edge, Larry Mullen Jr. and Adam Clayton

While the E Streeter Marathon Men tackle the magical marathon in DisneyWorld, I took a run "Where the Streets Have No Name," in Dublin, Ireland, because not only are we Bruce Springsteen fans, but U2 fans as well.

Looking Iffy, running along the River Liffey
Dublin's an old city with lots of historic buildings, and old and new bridges.  It wouldn't be an E Streeter run if the course didn't take advantage to cross a few of these bridges, so of course I did.  This bridge, the newest, features, a suspension system modeled after a harp, lying on its side.
Officially called the Samual Beckett bridge - NOT named after the lead character in Quantum Leap

For those of you of the Irish persuasion, a category into which many E Streeters fall, the Book of Kells and Ireland's oldest harp can be seen at Trinity College's library.  I didn't see them on this trip, but did when I visited local runner and friend Keith O'Brien in the late '80s when he did some graduate work at Trinity.
Running along the Liffy River provided great views of interesting historic as well as new Irish buildings.   Here's the Custom House:
Lots of political advertisements, too, including this one at the SIPTU Irish Labor Union Building:
Flat and easy, this running route provided one of my more memorable runs in recent memory.  Yes, the New Year's Day Soup Run is always fun, but too hilly.  Who the #^$% chooses that course, anyway?!?!
It's already over by the time you're reading this, but well wishes for E Streeter friends Pat, Tom and Barry, running in their first of TWO marathons this year, and first Florida Marathon, and for Andrew, running in the Disney Half Marathon.  I'm sure there'll be blog posts to follow.  Good luck guys, may the run be Magical!
An E Streeters Guinness!
