Captains of America

Clans Cook and Nicholson took to the streets of Chelmsford, along with about 2,000 fellow Patriots to run the John Carson two-mile road race kicking off the Fourth of July parade and festivities.
This year, it was theme #TeamCap running the roads, and there wasn't a Civil War in sight.
Kayla Borges made her road race debut for this year's outing, with Dad Carlos in tow, already sweating even before the race started!
Up front with the elite runners, waving to his adoring fans is Barry, who set the pace out front with Jon Noone and Sean Kenny, who can't be seen in that sea of humanity.
Coolrunning.com says there were almost 2,000 runners.  This crowd bears that number out.
Captains and Cousins, pre-sweat.
Because she's just so damn adorable, I needed one more thumbs up from Heather before the race started.
And they're off!  Captain America leads the pack!
But really, there was another Cap out front

Thumbs up from Ben!
And then suddenly, by the roadside, comes a Patriot - a staple not just at the Chelmsford parade, but at every Lowell Spinners game - John Greenwood!
The Captain Cousins were suddenly joined by a trio of Pisariks burning up the streets of their hometown!
The roadways of Chelmsford are lined with paparazzi.  They're there every year.  This year, with an early-warning Carloooos to cue up the shot, we caught one another in action.
Thanks for always being there Anne and Anne Marie!
The greatest part of the Chelmsford race is the family running that it unites, like this one between Dad and son, Jonathan and Andrew Crockett!
Heading into the home stretch, it's time for Andrew to execute some of his carefully planned road race photobombing.  He always remembers the cardinal rule, John.  Heather seems to be catching on, too.
Finally at the mat, Zachary leads the Captains across the finish line with his best time ever for a two-mile run!
Kayla with her first-ever finisher's medal!  Way to go, Kayla!
Like I said, the race is a family affair.
Fathers and daughters
Barry Scanlon and Jon Noone were pounding the victory freeze-pops.
Finn had the facepaint to celebrate his day!
Along with Dad, Sean.
Jill and Shea were marching in the parade itself, so couldn't do this year's run, but they were there in spirit!
Post-race, the sweat has kicked in, but ah, the thrill of victory!
Hope everyone had a safe, healthy and happy Fourth!
I know this was yet another blog post about a bunch of running, but truthfully, this race is a favorite because it brings families together every year for a fun tradition, lets us celebrate our country's freedom, and allows us to make some memories together off the beaten path.  There's way too many heavy things in life that can distract us from what's important, so if a two-mile run lets us put it all aside for a morning, bring it on!
And hey, America - AND Captain America - rocks!
