One of my favorite things to do while traveling is to explore the environs while running. It's a great way to check out the neighborhoods, to see some new sights, and most of all, to log some running miles on a course that's not one of the regular routes we do all year long.
Case in point this time around? Running from Marco Island over to nearby Naples with Andrew. A Hall of Fame run, no question. (There's more to come later in the week, via DisneyWorld.)
Andrew stopped to pose with one of the many decorative dolphins that dot the island. Luckily, the Italian restaurant behind him was closed, otherwise the run would have taken much longer.
With the Gulf of Mexico as his backdrop, Andrew sports the running gear of his alma mater, Lowell High School
Me, I took advantage of the five-mile jaunt to show off my Middlesex Community College bike challenge gear. MCC Around the World!
Andrew contemplates joining the Marco Island yacht club, but to paraphrase Groucho, Andrew doesn't want to join any club that would have him as a member
Heading over the bridge to Naples, with Tropical Storm Debbie looming out in the Gulf, Andrew and I had the bridge all to ourselves
Was there a town line involved? Why, yes there was! Who won it? Take one guess. Oh, and extra points because it's an island!
Crushed by losing an island line to his old man, Andrew can only sit and contemplate his plight
Clearly, the boy is despondent at the loss. Maybe I'll let him win the next one
Back on the island, Andrew and I both take time to see the sights. And we didn't overstay our welcome
And finally, Andrew striking a pose right out of a postcard. A run for the books, no question! To my fellow runners with a vacation still looming, get out there and log the mileage! And take pictures to immortalize it!
